How to Replace Your Bosch Dishwasher’s Non-Return Valve

If you have wastewater going back into your dishwasher, inspect the non-return valve. This part stops dirty water from returning to the machine during a wash cycle. If it’s broken, order replacement part #00165262, which is the non-return valve for Bosch and Thermador dishwashers, and follow these steps to install it.

1. Unplug your dishwasher.

Before you start repairing any appliance, make sure it’s separated from its power source instead of simply ‘off.’ 

2. Access the old non-return valve.

Pull the lower dishrack out and set it to the side. Remove the spray arm by pulling it up until it snaps out. Remove the filter basket by turning it counterclockwise until the blue arrow points to the right. Then remove the filter screen below it.Locate the screw that holds down the interior cover in the bottom left corner. Remove the screw and pull the cover away. The non-return valve is laying inside. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry it out. 

3. Install the new non-return valve.

Press the non-return valve down into the narrow slot with the circle pointing downward. Make sure the top is flush with the surrounding surface. Then put the cover back in place on top of it and retighten the screw to secure it.

4. Reassemble the dishwasher.

Once the cover has been secured, slide the filter screen into place. Press down on the two tabs in the back until it snaps. Twist the filter basket clockwise in the hole of the filter screen. The arrows should be pointing left and right when you start. Then turn it until the right arrow is pointing toward the front of the machine.
