Refrigerator Repair

One of the biggest emergencies you can have with your refrigerator is that it suddenly stops working. Because there’s a lot of different moving parts, there’s a lot that you need to check on. But if you hear a clicking sound coming from the bottom of your refrigerator, that list just got shorter. That clicking indicates that the compressor’s start relay has shorted out. Order a replacement (part #DA35-00099G) for your Samsung refrigerator. Then follow these steps to replace it yourself.

1. Unplug your refrigerator.

During this repair, you will need to access the rear of the appliance and handle wiring. Unplug your refrigerator before you get started to stay safe.

2. Remove the old compressor start relay.

First, remove rear access panel. To do this, remove the screws around the perimeter of the panel and lift it up out of the groove. Locate compressor on the left and the cover box next to it. Then pry the cover box off. Make sure you pull it out without bending or cracking the copper tubes. Now you can see the compressor’s wiring. Locate the start relay with red and blue wires and take a picture of the wires’ orientation for later use. Then pry the start relay off the terminal. Extract it without bending the copper tubing around it and remove the wires. The wires might be on tightly, so wiggle them or use the flathead screwdriver to remove them.

3. Install the new start relay.

First, connect the red and blue wires to the two terminals according to the picture you took earlier. Then reattach it to the compressor’s terminal.

4. Reassemble the refrigerator.

Reattach cover box. As you do so, carefully put it in position and make sure it’s not touching the copper tubing. Then snap it into place. Reattach rear access panel. Slide it into the bottom groove and then reattach the screws around the perimeter. Once the panel is in place, plug in the refrigerator. For more appliance repair guides or to talk to a technician, contact us at Central Valley Appliance.
