LA Shorts International Film Festival
When: July 17-25, 2019
Where: Opening day at Regal L.A. LIVE, Los Angeles; Other days at the Laemmle NoHo 7 Theaters, North Hollywood
The LA Shorts International Film Festival is the longest running short film festival in LA. This is your opportunity to enjoy short films in a variety of genres, including drama, foreign film, comedy, documentary, and several other genres. They even have a category specifically for high school filmmakers. The films range in length from about 5 minutes up to 50 minutes in length, giving you the opportunity to enjoy several films in only a short time. Be sure to get tickets to the Awards Ceremony so you can see if your favorite short film won an award.
When: July 26-28, 2019
Where: Kellogg West Conference Center, Pomona
If you are a fan of The Wizard of Oz, this is an event you won’t want to miss. Whether you fell in love with the books, you love the movies, or you were originally drawn to the Land of Oz through a Broadway musical, there is a place for you at OzCon International. You can enjoy things such as cosplay, plays, song performances, an auction, and much more. Since this is the hundredth anniversary of L. Frank Baum’s death, OzCon International should be an especially enjoyable experience.
Independent Shakespeare Festival
When: Now through September 1, 2019
Where: The Old Zoo in Griffith Park, Los Angeles
If love Shakespeare plays, this is for you. While the festival events are free, donations are accepted. Depending on the day, you can enjoy either Twelfth Night or Pericles at 7 pm most evenings from now until September 1. Dress in layers, and bring your own picnic food and picnic blankets or chairs.
