If your oven’s temperature sensor shorts out, the oven won’t work correctly. It either won’t be able to accurately regulate the temperature or inbuilt safety precautions will prevent it from turning on. Replace the sensor with replacement part #WPW10131825 if you have a KitchenAid Oven/Microwave Combo unit and follow these steps:
1. Unplug the appliance or flip the circuit breaker.
During this repair, you will be directly manipulating electronic parts and disconnecting wires. That means it’s absolutely essential for you to disconnect the appliance from its power source before you begin, along with other safety steps. While ovens and microwaves generally plug into the wall, most microwave/oven combo models are wired directly into your house’s power supply. Flip the circuit breaker to disconnect the power source.
2. Remove the oven door.
Fully open the oven door and locate the hinges on either side. Use a flathead screwdriver to flip up the lock hinges securing the hinge bars in place. Then partially close the oven door and grab the sides. Slide the door up off the hinge and set it aside on a flat, protected surface.
3. Remove the oven temperature sensor.
Remove oven racks and Locate the temperature sensor probe in the top corner of the oven’s interior. It is held in place by a bracket with two screws. Unscrew the bracket and pull the probe out into the oven. A long trail of wire will follow it. Find the wire harness and disconnect the sensor from the wire.
4. Install the new temperature sensor.
Connect the wire harness of the new sensor to the old length of wire, and then push the excess wire back through. Slide the sensor’s bracket over the new probe and position it against the rear wall of the oven. Then secure the bracket with the two screws.
5. Reinstall the oven door.
Carefully hold the oven door by its sides and slide it in place over the hinge bars at a forty-five-degree angle. Next, lower the door. Snape the hinge latches back in place over both hinges. Fully close the door and make sure it doesn’t feel loose before releasing it.
