3 Amazing Food Museums in Los Angeles

If you like art that you can eat, you’ll want to visit these 3 Los Angeles museums devoted to food and drink. Find out more about these local attractions that will help you to appreciate what’s on your plate.

The Pacific Food & Beverage Museum:

Celebrate the culinary traditions of California and beyond. Museum programs include gallery exhibitions and special presentations by authors, chefs, and culinary experts in various fields, as well as mixology seminars, films, curated dinners throughout Los Angeles, and more. Recent exhibitions have ranged from Victorian ephemera to photographs of chef and bartenders’ tattoos.

(Admission by suggested donation, Thursday through Sunday noon to 5:00 pm, extended hours during San Pedro’s monthly First Thursday Artwalks)

The Disgusting Food Museum:

A food could be a delicacy in one culture and distressing in another. However, the 80 samples gathered here are likely to be a challenge for anyone unfamiliar with them. Let’s just say the descriptions include words like pungent and maggots. In addition to a fun adventure, there are also serious questions about building global connections and addressing environmental issues related to food production.

(Admission is $15 weekdays and $18 weekends for adults, and $10 for children 12 and under, Wednesday through Friday 2 to 8 pm and Saturday through Sunday noon to 7 pm)

La Plaza Cocina:

Be one of the first visitors to the first museum and teaching kitchen dedicated to Mexican cuisine. It will be opening in downtown Los Angeles later this year as part of the current LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes complex. Look forward to food vendors, a specialty store, and classes like Maya cooking from the Yucatan.

(The museum is scheduled to open in 2019)To create your own museum quality dishes at home, you’ll need to keep your kitchen in top shape.
