Replacing a Faulty Timer on a Maytag Dryer

If you start up your dryer and maybe an hour later wonder why your clothes aren’t dry yet, be sure to check. If your clothes are dry, remove them. However, if you close the door and the dry cycle starts up again, you have a pretty big problem. It is likely that the timer on your Maytag dryer has gone faulty. What this means is that the dry cycle won’t stop unless you physically unplug the dryer. That’s kind of inconvenient. However, located in your dryer’s control panel, the timer is actually pretty easy to replace and won’t require dissembling your whole appliance.

Replacing Your Maytag Dryer Timer

Start by unplugging the dryer and pulling it forward so the back is accessible. Pull the timer knob off the front of the control panel and remove the screws on the back of the control panel.

With the control panel cover removed, it is worthwhile to take a picture of how the wires are connected to the dryer timer so you can make reassembly easier. Once done, disconnect all the wire harnesses from the dryer timer and remove the mounting screws. You will now be able to completely remove the old dryer timer.

Now insert the new timer, making sure the mounting screws are fully secure. Be careful reconnecting the wire harnesses so as you do not bend any of the pins. Placing the control panel cover back on, you can now put the dryer timer knob back on the front.

By placing the knob in the “Off” position and plugging back in the dryer, your issue should be fixed.

If this didn’t fix your issue, you may have another problem within your Maytag dryer and may require a professional touch. Contact us today to see what we can do in order to get your dryer back into working condition.
