How to Replace Your Icemaker’s Shut Off Arm in a Kenmore Refrigerator

If your ice maker won’t stop making ice, the shut-off arm might be too bent to function correctly. If it’s no longer in the proper shape or it’s broken, order replacement part #WP67004028 for a new shut off arm for Kenmore refrigerator ice makers. Then follow these quick steps to install it.

1. Unplug and turn off the water supply.

Whenever you are making repairs to an appliance, make sure it’s unplugged before you start. Because you’ll be working near the water supply lines, turn off the water connection before you start to reduce the risk of leaks.

2. Dismantle the freezer section for access.

First, open the door to the lower freezer compartment and remove the icemaker’s bucket. Next, pull the freezer shelves off the tabs and remove. Set it aside. Then grab the door by the sides and lift the whole door free of the hinges. Carefully set it aside and push the hinge arms back into the freezer so you have plenty of easy access to the ice maker

3. Remove the old shut off arm.

First, pry free the end of the arm that’s nearest to the door. To do this slightly bend the end towards the rear of the freezer or pry it free with a flathead screwdriver. Once it’s loose, pull the other end of the arm free.

4. Install the new shut off arm.

Orient the shut off arm so both ends point to the left. Start by slipping the right end into the hole at the rear side of the ice maker’s arm apparatus. Once it’s secure, push the remaining end into place in the hole in the ice maker’s front compartment until the bar is flush with the compartment.
Move the arm to the on and off positions a few times to make sure the movement is not impeded.

5. Reassemble the freezer section.

First, fully extend the freezer hinge arms. Next carefully lower the door back into position. The hooks on each side of the door should lock into position on the arms. Then put the shelf and the ice maker’s bucket back in the freezer.
Turn the water connection back on and plug in the refrigerator.
