Refrigerator Repair

Can You Use Replacement Door Handles From Another Brand?

Whether the door handles are dirty beyond easy cleaning or have just become broken, you may be thinking of replacing them. When you have to replace any part, your first step should be to find the part number. This may be located on the part, in the owner’s manual, or you may need to look up the model number of your appliance to find the specific part number. However, in an effort to save money, reuse old appliance parts, or just in an “it’s close enough” sort of affair, you may be looking to replace your refrigerator door handles with handles that look the same, but are from a different brand.

You may know that some brands, while different in name, are owned by the same company. Such is the case with Whirlpool and KitchenAid, for example. Why shouldn’t there be some overlap in parts, right? Interestingly enough, overlap in cosmetic items like door handles is actually fairly rare. While the handles may look the same and even measure the same, they likely are not the same. The most important thing to measure if you are looking to replace the door handles on a refrigerator is the measurement of the holes that attach it to the appliance. Will they line up with your appliance? Will they take the same size bolt to secure to your appliance? If the answer is yes, then you can totally replace door handles with door handles from another brand. The issue is that unless you have those other door handles on hand, you will have trouble finding those measurements. It is just easier to buy the specific replacement rather than playing a guessing game.

Do you have a refrigerator that needs more serious repair than a door handle replacement? We can help!
