Dryer Repair

Keep Your Maytag Dryer Door Shut by Replacing the Door Catch

If your dryer cycles keep getting interrupted, the door on your appliance might not be staying shut and the dryer door catch might be broken or worn. Inspect the part for damage or tug on the door to see if it feels securely shut. If the door catch isn’t working, order replacement part #WPW10111905 for your Maytag dryer and follow these quick steps to install it.

1. Unplug the dryer.

Before you start any appliance repair job, make sure you unplug the appliance first. Even though you aren’t directly accessing any electrical components during this repair, this step keeps you and the surrounding area safe.

2. Remove the old door catch.

Open the door and locate the two-door catches on the inside of the door. Then determine which one matches with the door strike that secures the door. Most models only have one on the side opposite from the door hinge.

Once you’ve determined which door catch you need to remove, pry the bottom tab up and out with a putty knife or flathead screwdriver. Hold the bottom edge and pry the top tab down to loosen it, as well. When both tabs are free, wiggle the door catch completely out of the hole in the door. Set it aside.

3. Install the new door catch.

Line the door catch up with the hole in the door with the locking tabs aligned on the top and bottom. Press it into place by hand and push until you hear the locking tabs snap. Then shut the door. Open and shut the door to make sure it shuts securely.
