Washer Repair

When you have a front-loading washer, the washer’s door hinge is put under a lot of stress. If the hinge is cracked or you notice the door hanging crookedly, don’t risk a leak by waiting. Buy a replacement hinge (134550800 for Electrolux models) and follow these steps to replace it.

1. Unplug the washer.

This repair doesn’t involve any electrical repairs. But it’s always safer to unplug an appliance before you start making any repairs.

2. Remove the door.

In order to access the hinge, you need to remove the entire door from the appliance. Loosen and remove the three screws holding the door bracket against the body of the machine. Then lift the door up to slide the back mounting tabs out of the slots.

Set the door interior side up on a flat work surface.

3. Dismantle the door to remove the old door hinge.

First, remove the screws around the circumference of the door interior. Next, lift the door’s inner frame up. Set it to the side. Pick up the door hinge and set it aside.

4. Install the new hinge and reassemble the door.

Line the new hinge up with the cutouts and mounting tabs in the panel. Press down to lock it into place. Next, put the inner door frame back on the door. Line it up with the screw holes and snap the locking tabs into place. Rethread and tighten the screws. Also reattach the strike plate with the two screws.

5. Reattach the door to the washer.

Slide the door’s mounting tabs down into the cutouts on the side of the washer frame. Line the hinge bracket up, flush with the side of the washer, and resecure it with the screws.

Make sure the door opens and shuts smoothly, and then plug the washer back in.
