The refrigerator isn’t cooling
One of the most common problems people have with their Maytag refrigerators is when they don’t cool correctly. This can result in your food going bad and ice melting in your freezer which can then leak out onto the floor.
To fix this problem, here’s what you need to do:
- Check the temperature settings. The temperature in your refrigerator should be set to 37°F and the freezer unit 0°F. If your appliance isn’t set to the correct temperatures, adjust them. Also, make sure your appliance isn’t sitting directly in the sunlight as this can cause your fridge to not cool down.
- Check the settings. The next step is to check that your other settings are correct. For example, when there is a power outage your fridge might go into the “power outage” mode or some refrigerators have a “showroom mode” that needs to be changed when you buy a new appliance.
- Check the vents. Make sure the vents on your refrigerator are not obstructed in any way. When this happens, air can be stopped from flowing between the fridge unit and the freezer unit.
- Check the condenser coils. At the back of your appliance are a set of coils that help to cool your fridge. Make sure they are not covered in dust or frost. If so, give them a good clean.
The ice maker has stopped working
Another common problem people encounter with their Maytag refrigerators is when the ice maker stops working. When this occurs, it can be due to several issues arising.
Here’s what you need to check:
- Check the ice maker is switched on. Start by checking that your ice maker unit is switched on. Sometimes the off button can be accidentally touched causing your ice maker to shut down.
- Check the water supply line. Make sure the water line isn’t blocked, bent, or cracked. If the hose line gets damaged it will need to be replaced as your ice maker won’t be able to get any water in it to make ice.
- Check the valves. Make sure the shut-off valve is open. If the valve is damaged or blocked, it will need to be replaced.
Excess ice in the freezer or moisture in the fridge
If you find excess moisture in your fridge or an ice build-up in your freezer unit, it may be caused by your appliance not being airtight. This causes a build-up of moisture which turns into ice or water. It can also cause leaks to occur.
To find the cause of the problem and fix it, here’s what to do:
- Make sure your fridge isn’t too full. Start by making sure you don’t have too much food and containers in your fridge/freezer which might be stopping the doors from closing correctly.
- Check the door gasket. Make sure the door gasket/seal isn’t cracked or damaged in any way. If it is, you’ll need to replace it. If there are no obvious signs of damage, give the gasket/seal a good clean.
- Check the drain. At the bottom of your freezer is a drain for water to drain out of your appliance. Make sure it isn’t blocked by pouring hot water down it.
The water dispenser doesn’t work
If your Maytag refrigerator has a water dispenser and it has stopped working, there are a few simple steps you can take to fix the underlying cause of the problem.
To find the cause of the problem and fix it, here’s what to do:
- Check the water supply. Make sure the water supply is connected and working correctly. If the hose is damaged, it will need to be replaced.
- Check the inlet valve. Make sure the water inlet valve can open and close correctly. If faulty, replace the valve.
- Check the water filter. Sometimes the water filter can get blocked which prevents water from being able to pass through it. Locate the water filter, remove it and make sure it isn’t blocked. Remember to replace your water filter every 6-months.
The refrigerator is making loud noises
If your refrigerator is making loud noises, it’s usually something simple causing it that can easily be fixed. The actions you need to take depend on what type of noise is coming from your appliance.
Here are some of the most common noises, and how you can stop them:
- Rattling. Make sure the condenser and evaporator fans aren’t bent out of shape, frosted over, or blocked from being able to rotate. If any of the fans are defective, they will need to be repaired or replaced.
- Buzzing. Make sure the ice-maker unit is getting water supplied to it by checking the water hose isn’t damaged and/or the shut-off valve is turned on. If the hose or valve is damaged, it will need to be replaced.
- Vibrating. Make sure the fridge is sitting level on the floor. Use a bubble level to check, and if necessary, adjust the legs on the bottom of your fridge.
- Humming. Make sure the compressor unit hasn’t come loose. You can also reset your fridge to see if that solves the problem.
- Beeping. If your fridge is making a beeping noise, check if an error code is showing. If so, consult your user manual to determine what the code means. It should also give you advice on how to remove it.
