In order to clean your dishes as thoroughly and efficiently as possible, your dishwasher may use a middle spray arm. This spray arm uses a manifold to ferry water. Unfortunately, if it is cracked or broken, this could result in leakage as well as the fact that you won’t get a good wash from it. However, it need not be something you just ignore. You can replace this manifold to get your dishwasher back up and running.

The following instructions are generalized and specific steps can vary by brand and model.

In order to access the average manifold, you will need to remove the top rack from your dishwasher that it is mounted to. You will need to remove the plastic rack stops on the rails, which usually snap into place with locking tabs. Once done, you can pull the rack right out and turn it upside down to have full access to the middle spray arm manifold.

All you need to do now is to remove the screw in the middle of the spray arm. This screw secures the manifold to the spray arm bearing and once removed, the manifold will lift right up. There may be a hoop at the end of your dish rack that it needs to be pulled through.

With your replacement manifold in hand, slip it through the aligning loop and turn it so that the lipped side is being inserted into the spray arm. You can now re-secure the screw and install your upper dish rack again. The manifold should now slide snugly back into place.

You will, of course, want to run a test wash.
